Struggling with productivity and not caring at the same time; I keep telling myself "to work" but it just isn't happening right now. Ah well, it's been quite the week, so far, it has, and I have a (shitty temporary co-op grocery store) job interview tomorrow, so I'm chilling with a beer and the iPod and a book, soon, I hope.

Von is jarring and beautiful by turns; it takes some faith to get into but tracks 3-7 and 9, I think, are quite heavenly and beautiful--and easy to see where the sound for Ágaetis byrjun and beyond came from. Yay for Nate for having bought this CD in Iceland when he was there.

Also quite lovely is "For Whom The Bell Tolls," which I got as a birthday present, and realized I hadn't read a lot of Hemingway (same with Nabokov and Pnin, though I had read Lolita) It's quite the book, dated euphemisms for cursing and the odd use of "thee/thy/thou" when dealing with translation from the Spanish language. But I would notice that, and I'm liking it so far.

That's the evening, in a nutshell. Happy weekend.

Dude, Sigur Ros, does NOT suck... I could make come up with a number of arguments, but to be quite frank, that is not why I came here to comment.

Good luck with the interview, be it a sucky job

Yeah, it's reminiscent of all that journalistic stuff Orwell was writing at the time, particularly Homage to Catalonia, of course, but if it's my first Hemingway novel, it might as well be the best one.

And no, Sigur Ros don't suck. In any event, music is a highly subjective thing, regardless of anyone's cheeky proclamations, and man have I had some good times listening to them, last weekend's show being not the least of these.

But I'll just get back to my Hemingway.

So?

so u realized that I don't check this often enough. But to the person who said that sigur ros sucks all I have to say is...

"Trace the call! Trace the call!"

Hey, good to see you off of livejournal!

Be gone, ye of little faith!

Seriously, accept the fact that not everyone likes electronic quasi-hip-hop gangster muzak...

Either that, or mostly, they sing in Icelandic.

This from Mr. "do all texts have to be in English," when we were talking about translating books.

ow NOW I get it, we have an illiterate in our midst!

that explains everything. Really, sympathize, it's not his fault he's ignorant towards other continents.

Wait, that would mean I do not exist in his view...

whatever

P.S. You look like your mother, Andrew

and that is ment in like a compeltely neutral way, not implying anything but establishing the similarity.

I need some sleep

Heh. I don't think Nate's illiterate. He just enjoys being an asshole.

But who doesn't, really?

I wasn't referring to Nate, you dumb... By the way, did you ask Nate yet?

So, darling, whatever your name is. What have you ever done to make he world a better place, since you brought up the topic of worldpoverty, glabalization of capital and all that. Just out of mere curiosity, since I am not arging using an 'appeal to the stick' method, as opposed to you. By the way, how many languages do you speak? Considering the fact that I think it is quite unfair for a native to argue with someone who is not a native - I'd like to equal the balance if you like.

Furthermore, should you know anything of the continent called Europe - which I am starting to doubt by now - you'd know Iceland is pretty much out there when it comes to politics and here and there unfortunately is a very present member of the international community, especially when it comes to international law (specially that of the sea).

And don't get me started on class-struggle, cause if I can name just one thing am KNOW you are not familliar with, than it must be the Dutch university system and in particular the must disputed position of my particular college, which has EVERYTHING to do with class-struggle, status and most of all a lack of understanding between groups.

Therefore, I suggest you start helping out some people in New Orleans or something, rather than to suppose all sorts of things about someone you most like don't even know the nationality of, let alone that you know where my country acually is situated on the European continent.

I bid thee a good day, Sir.

No, he's a Nate too.

Dutch Agnes, other Nate; other Nate, Dutch Agnes.

Play nice now.

Also, dude. Jaguar shark. Or whatever it is.

If it exists.

Fine, well I never have seen his dad nor a picture of him, so I wouldn't know

and get me your e-mail if you wanna get to the bottom of this, cause I will resist in abusing Andrew's space for this kind of classtruggle related discussions.

P.S. How ironic that the only other language you speak should be one which is at the heart of all things bourgeois, however especially all things related to repression of the middle and lower class by the upper snobish aristocracy...

Wow I didn't realize that it was "other Nate" on the other end of the line here complaining about Sigur Ros.

1) They're latest CD is in pure Icelandic (a wonderfully real lanugage).

2) Since when does music have to be about politics. If music were only about politics that Captain Wanker, himself, (aka Bono) should be invited to the UN so that he can realize his masturbatory dream of making poverty "history"...oh wait.
